Y Series Standard Bourdon Tube Pressure Gauges

Description

Mechanical indication for pressure and vacuum

Y series gauges use a brass Bourdon tube, brass movement and threaded brass process connection. Pressure deforms the tube and drives the pointer through a mechanical transmission, providing local indication without an electrical supply. Painted iron or steel cases protect the movement. Suitable media include air, water, oil and other gases or liquids compatible with copper-alloy wetted parts.

Typical applications include water-supply pumps, air compressors, pneumatic equipment, hydraulic machinery, vacuum systems and general test equipment. Select the dial size, pressure span and connection to suit the installation.

Model comparison

ModelDialAccuracy classStandard threadOperating ambient
Y-4040mm2.5M10×1-40°C to 70°C
Y-6060mm2.5M14×1.5-5°C to 55°C
Y-100100mm1.6M20×1.5-5°C to 55°C
Y-150150mm1.6M20×1.5-20°C to 60°C

The Y-40 and Y-150 use bottom connections. Bottom, back and panel-mount arrangements are available within the family according to configuration. Relative-humidity limits are ≤98% for Y-40, <85% for Y-60/Y-100 and ≤80% for the general Y-150 configuration.

Pressure spans and selection

SelectionAvailable configuration
Vacuum range-0.1 to 0MPa
Positive-pressure full-scale choices0.10, 0.16, 0.25, 0.4, 0.6, 1.0, 1.6, 2.5, 4.0, 6.0, 10, 16, 25, 40 and 60MPa, depending on gauge configuration
Y-60 / Y-100 standard example0–1.6MPa; other spans available
Pressure typesGauge pressure and vacuum; compound scales available on the Y-100 and suitable family configurations
Scale unitsMPa, psi, bar or kgf/cm²
Thread optionsMetric threads or G, PT and NPT connections in 1/8in, 1/4in and 1/2in sizes, subject to model
Steady-pressure selectionRecommended operating pressure: 1/3 to 2/3 of full scale
Fluctuating-pressure selectionRecommended operating pressure: 1/3 to 1/2 of full scale

Each gauge has a fixed calibrated span: the family range choices do not make an individual gauge suitable for every pressure. Use the dial marking and ordered configuration. Range, thread, scale design, material and accuracy can be specified for customized orders.

The Y-60 weighs approximately 149g. Its reference temperature is 20°C ±5°C, with an indicated error change no greater than 0.4% per 10°C departure. The drawing shows M14×1.5 with G1/4, PT1/4 and NPT1/4 alternatives; larger optional connections depend on the ordered version.

Installation and service

Check that the range and connection match the pressure source and that the unpressurized pointer rests at zero. Seal the threaded connection, engage it squarely and tighten with a wrench at the connection. Read the dial perpendicularly at pointer level to reduce parallax.

Regularly inspect the case, pointer and connection. Stop using a gauge with severe pointer oscillation or a persistent zero error. Damping arrangements or vibration-resistant gauges may be needed on pulsating or vibrating systems. Professional calibration is recommended every 6–12 months.
