EDF Single-Phase Water Level Control Cabinets

Description

Single-phase pump control

EDF cabinets automate water supply, drainage and upper/lower tank control on 220VAC, 50Hz systems. The steel cabinet integrates an AC contactor, circuit breaker and motor-protection components. Protective functions include overload, short circuit and water shortage. Typical applications include water towers, industrial water storage, irrigation, wastewater sumps, garage drainage and textile processing.

Select the input arrangement as well as the pump duty. S, X and SX configurations use the conductive-probe arrangements described below; F configurations use float-switch control. The gallery shows EDF-1302F.

Conductive-probe control arrangements

The following terminal functions apply to the corresponding EDF-13□□S, EDF-13□□X and EDF-13□□SX probe configurations. They do not define the wiring of F float-switch models. In the illustrated arrangements, terminals 1 and 2 receive the 220VAC supply, and terminals 3 and 4 connect to the load.

S: upper-tank filling5: high level; 6: low level; 7: common probe below the low-level probeStop when liquid reaches probe 5; start filling when liquid falls below probe 6.Terminal 8
X: lower-tank drainage5: high level; 6: low level; 7: common probe below the low-level probeStart drainage when liquid reaches probe 5; stop when liquid falls below probe 6.
X: water-shortage protection5 and 6: low-level detection; 7: common probeStop the pump when either low-level probe loses contact with the liquid.

Probe installation and maintenance

Use conductive probes only with liquids that provide adequate conductivity; distilled water and other poorly conductive or nonconductive liquids are unsuitable for these probe configurations. Place each common probe below its associated low-level probe. Secure the probes to prevent movement, and keep them clear of metal tank walls to prevent unintended conduction.

After wiring, check the input, output and probe connections. Move the probes into and out of the liquid to verify start/stop operation, check manual pump control, then return the selector to automatic operation. Avoid damp, corrosive or metal-laden gas environments. Inspect and clean the probes once or twice every two months.

Operational checks

If the controller does not operate after power is applied, check the power indicator, terminal connections and selector position. If switching does not follow the liquid level, use manual control while checking probe position, crossed or shorted probe/common wires, corrosion, detached leads and the common probe's level. Use the wiring diagram for the selected configuration when correcting connections.
