User-defined serial protocol conversion
GW FP gateways connect equipment using a user-defined serial protocol to an industrial Ethernet network. The serial side supports master or slave mode through RS232, RS485 and RS422 interfaces. Choose a model for the required network and channel count; each model has one designated industrial network protocol.
Choose the network and channel count
| Industrial network | One-channel model | Two-channel model | Three-channel model |
| PROFINET | GW-PN-1FP | GW-PN-2FP | GW-PN-3FP |
| EtherCAT | GW-EC-1FP | GW-EC-2FP | GW-EC-3FP |
| EtherNet/IP | GW-EIP-1FP | GW-EIP-2FP | GW-EIP-3FP |
| CC-Link IE Field Basic | GW-CB-1FP | GW-CB-2FP | GW-CB-3FP |
| Modbus TCP | GW-MT-1FP | GW-MT-2FP | GW-MT-3FP |
The channel counts apply to the supported serial interface modes. RS232, RS485 and RS422 counts do not represent three additional sets of independent physical ports.
| Model suffix | RS232 channels | RS485 channels | RS422 channels |
|---|
| 1FP | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| 2FP | 2 | 2 | 2 |
| 3FP | 3 | 3 | 3 |
Network capacity and connection
| Model group | Network interfaces | Transmission rate | Maximum input data | Maximum output data |
| GW-PN | 2 | 10/100Mbps, full duplex | 512 bytes | 512 bytes |
| GW-EC | 3 | 100Mbps | 512 bytes | 512 bytes |
| GW-EIP | 2 | 100Mbps | 512 bytes | 512 bytes |
| GW-CB | 2 | 100Mbps | 500 bytes | 500 bytes |
| GW-MT | 2 | 100Mbps | 512 bytes | 512 bytes |
| Network characteristic | Specification |
| Network role | Slave; remote I/O station |
| Station allocation | 1 station |
| Address setting | According to the selected PROFINET, EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, CC-Link IE Field Basic or Modbus TCP specification |
| Topology | Bus |
| Transmission medium | CAT5 Ethernet cable |
| Distance between network stations | ≤100m |
| Isolation | Electrical isolation from the field side; isolation voltage unspecified |
Serial settings and protocol scope
| Serial characteristic | Specification |
| Electrical interfaces | RS232, RS485, RS422 |
| Protocol | User-defined protocol |
| Operating role | Master or slave |
| Baud rates | 1200bit/s, 2400bit/s, 4800bit/s, 9600bit/s, 19200bit/s, 38400bit/s, 57600bit/s, 115200bit/s |
| Additional baud rates | Available by customization |
| Data bits | 7, 8 or 9 bits |
| Stop bits | 1 or 2 bits |
| Parity | None, odd or even |
| Duplex modes | Half duplex or full duplex |
| Function-code values | 01H, 02H, 03H, 04H, 05H, 06H, 0FH, 10H; application mapping unspecified |
Define the message format and command mapping for the connected serial equipment. The function-code values alone do not establish a complete Modbus RTU implementation. Modbus TCP on a GW-MT model identifies the Ethernet-side protocol; its FP serial side remains a user-defined protocol interface.
