Flat springs use metal strip or sheet to apply pressure, tension, torque or retention force along a defined motion path. Their form can follow a narrow or irregular mounting space, combining spring action with guiding, resetting, electrical contact or cantilever support.

Forms and Functions

  • Motor brush springs: apply pressure to maintain contact between the carbon brush and commutator.
  • Constant force springs: provide an approximately constant pull for mechanisms such as tape measures, seatbelt retractors and fitness equipment counterweights.
  • Constant torque springs: provide an approximately constant turning force for hinges, roller shutters and cable rewinds.
  • Flat and leaf springs: serve electrical switches, contacts, clutch discs and cantilever mechanisms.

Formed clips and other flat parts can be specified alongside coiled strip designs. Select the geometry around the required motion and available space, then define the material, finish and packaging for the assembly.
