CLW2-25 25A Modular Cam Switches

Description

CLW2-25 cam switches combine a 25A conventional thermal-current rating with modular rotary contact programs. Detent, spring-return, illuminated and key-operated versions provide different operating actions and mounting arrangements for control circuits, instrument selection, distribution equipment and motor switching.

Select the operating positions, contact schedule, section count, handle and panel wording together. Standard detent mechanisms support up to eleven sections; spring-return and illuminated arrangements support up to ten. Eight or fewer sections are recommended. The standard indexing steps are 30°, 45°, 60° and 90°.

Detent Position Codes

The first character selects the indexing step: 3=30°, 4=45°, 6=60° and 9=90°. The next two letters identify the start and end positions on the appropriate circle, clockwise. A is the 0° reference; O is a position letter. A continuous-rotation program repeats the start letter as its end letter. Contact logic and section count can restrict the available travel.

Example Step Position sequence
3KC 30° K, O, A, B, C
4OB 45° O, A, B
6KE 60° K, A, C, E
9GC 90° G, A, C
3JJ 30° Twelve positions over 360°, starting at −90°, without an end stop

Arrows show spring-return directions; commas separate positions without a return arrow between them. Y means available; Y* limits the program to three sections or fewer.

On/Off and Changeover Programs

Each section adds two contact pairs. In the following table, the two pair columns identify the contacts added by that section. For a selected section count, include the pairs in every row from section 1 through that count. An on/off program opens all pairs at 0 and closes both groups at 1. Changeover closes the first pair group at position 1 and the second at position 2; center-off adds an all-open position 0 between them.

Custom Contact Specification

Define a custom switch by thermal current, mechanical function, handle code, panel wording, handle directions and the open/closed state of each required terminal pair at every position. The blank worksheet provides pairs 1–2 through 47–48 as a general twelve-section specification grid; the selected CLW2-25 mechanism must remain within its own section limit.

Cam switch custom contact schedule worksheet
Worksheet for specifying the complete operating and contact sequence.

Small-Load Use and Contact Protection

The standard minimum applicable load is 24VDC, 10mA. Smaller signals require a suitable small-load contact configuration. Contacts used on general loads should not subsequently be reused for smaller signals, because contact-surface changes can reduce low-current reliability. Use suitable CR suppression and contact protection where bounce, noise or pulse currents affect the circuit.

Cam switch small-load and standard-load operating regions
Small-load reference regions, including the illustrated 5mW and 800mW boundaries.

These products are intended for industrial controls. High-reliability infrastructure, safety-critical transport or medical systems, severe outdoor or contaminated environments, fire or explosion hazards, military uses and large engineering projects require a specifically designed and expressly confirmed configuration.
