Description

IP66 limit switches with selectable contact action

C4B-N vertical limit switches provide a single conduit entry, Class I construction with a ground terminal and thirteen actuator styles. The C4B-41…N models below use an M20 entry and snap-action 1NC+1NO contacts. The ordering system also identifies Pg13.5 entries and slow-action contact options; specify the required combination when ordering.

Direct opening is limited to the NC contacts and actuator codes identified in the selection table. Spring and whisker heads do not have this function. Use the contact configuration, approach direction and required operating travel together when selecting a model.

Ordering-code structure

C4B-4101N comprises the series C4B, a hyphen, conduit code 4, contact code 1, actuator code 01 and the fixed N suffix. Preserve leading zeros and keep 08H as a complete actuator code.

Contact circuits and direct opening

Contact-code familyActionTerminalsCircuit restrictions
C4B-□11NC+1NO, snap actionNC11-12; NO13-14NC direct opening with eligible heads; do not use the two contact circuits for different polarities
C4B-□31NC+1NO, slow actionNC11-12; NO23-24NC opens before NO closes; NC direct opening with eligible heads; do not use the two circuits for different polarities
C4B-□42NC, slow actionNC11-12; NC21-22Both NC circuits have direct opening with eligible heads and may serve different polarities; switching points need not coincide

For direct opening, provide at least the specified DOT travel and DOF force. The mechanism mechanically separates the NC contacts through the actuator. This function does not establish a safety integrity level or a complete machine safety function.

Verify sealing for the actual installation and operating environment. IP66 does not permit immersion in water or oil. Keep the cover installed whenever the switch is energized.

Load-specific switching currents

Current values are in amperes. These are steady-current ratings; inductive loads use AC power factor at least 0.4 or DC time constant below 7ms. Lamp and motor load columns allow inrush of ten and six times steady current, respectively.

Plunger force and travel

OF is maximum operating force; RF is minimum release force. PT is maximum pretravel, OT is minimum overtravel, MD is maximum differential travel, DOT and DOF are minimum travel and force required for direct opening. FP is maximum free position; OP is the operating-position datum. TT and PT2 in parentheses are reference values. MD applies only to snap action; PT2 applies only to slow action.

Lever force and travel

Lever characteristics apply in either operating direction. Roller-lever forces are measured at a 31.5mm lever setting; rod-lever forces are measured at 140mm. The table distinguishes snap and slow action rather than treating direct-opening travel as a single value.

Slow-action values describe the corresponding head with contact code 3 or 4, not a change to the snap-action C4B-41…N model. Two NC circuits may switch at different positions; verify their operation in the assembled mechanism.

Spring and whisker heads accept movement around the actuator axis, excluding axial pushing. Apply movement within the outer third of the actuator length measured from the tip.

The body drawings show 40±1mm width, 43mm depth, 30±0.2mm by 60±0.2mm mounting centers and Ø5.3mm mounting holes. Use the complete outline for the selected actuator before machining. Secure the body with M5 screws and washers. Head mounting can be reset in four orientations after removing the four head screws; exclude debris and retighten correctly.

Apply roller-lever loads horizontally to avoid bending the actuator or shaft. For roller plungers, keep the cam angle below 30°, use a cam with the specified 6.3S surface-finish designation and HV400-500 hardness, and align the plunger groove with the sleeve top as shown in the attachment. The illustrated cam/sleeve offset is 2.8mm.

Wiring and tightening torques

Wire only with power isolated. Keep wire fragments out of the enclosure, use insulated M3.5 crimp terminals and choose AWG20-AWG18 or 0.5-0.75mm² conductors. Position terminals clear of the casing and allow the cover to close without trapping them. Terminal thickness must not exceed 0.5mm.

Keep conduit connectors within their specified torque range; excessive tightening can damage the enclosure. For loads below 24VDC/10mA, select a dedicated low-load configuration. Contacts already used on general loads should not be reassigned to small loads. Suitable suppression and contact protection are required for bounce-related noise and impulse currents.
